American Dirt
It’s both a thriller and a powerful tale about the migrant experience, though unfortunately not from an actual migrant’s perspective. Regardless, the story is fast-paced, devastating, and deeply affecting at moments. It’s also a book that demands critical engagement— read this book alongside other works by Latinx and immigrant authors to gain a more nuanced, authentic understanding of the complex issues it portrays. However, if you take it as purely fiction, which it is, it’s an intriguing and exhilarating read.
